Poetry: Dear Little One

Dear Little One

to the woman after me
both of my flesh and blood
don't let the weight of the world
bear a mark over your strong shoulders
or the words from the poisonous tongues
of envious fellow earthlings
dishearten your soul
these over-bearings are ordinary
in your life as it was in mine
oh sweet yield of my womb
the monsoon winds might change with seasons
so will the deeds of men
but don't let loose of your roots
water and nourish them instead
with sprinkles of courage
and soil rich in wisdom

for this i tell you, none is greater than the knowledge you gain,
and the stories you carry,
on your hardworking palms it will show
and sage frowns on your forehead; it will tell,
the sole purpose of existence lying in your spirit
into the wilderness you shall not wonder
for your shrewd mind; it will guide you
your bold nerves; it will drive you
to conquer the highest peaks of mountains
and silence the foul mouths of crooked mortals

Go now,
embrace in your own beautiful skin
the gorgeous woman you are
in mind, body and soul
my dear little one
