Poetry: I knew

Poetry: I knew

I knew this calmness in my heart,
Is only for a blink of an eye,
This sadness is difficult to tear apart,
My dear, how do I say goodbye

I knew I was lost in the maze of time,
Of careless hopefulness,
and the perpetual climb,
where I gave you only kindness,
that you had turned into a crime,

I knew this was all a game,
When love was all I wanted to give,
But oh, what a shame,
Maybe this isn't the life I was meant to live,

I knew I will never forget,
Your selfish words,
and those kisses of regret,
Just trapped in a cage like the fettered birds,

I knew those voices were right,
they told me to stay away
as you whispered under the dim yellow light,
since then my days have only been grey

I knew I loved you,
when you came to see me that night,
Sad how we fell through,
Only memories now left to write
